Tata Steel's Kalinga Nagar Project
Bhubaneshwar, Sep 18: Labelling the 2006 police firing incident as 'unfortunate', Tata Steel's vice-president B K Singh said that the company was committed to its Kalinga Nagar project.

Tata promises to make Orissa's Jajpur 'another Jamshedpur', Singh said recalling the 2006 incident when 13 persons died in police firing during land acquisition.

"We will make Jajpur district another Jamshedpur. Kalinga Nagar project is on the top of our priorities," Singh said fter attending the review meeting on progress of implementation of mega projects in Orissa.

On the 2006 violence, he said, "We should forget the incident and heal the situation," adding that the company was ready to help the families of the victims.

Singh informed that the company had already invested Rs 4000 crore out of estimated project cost Rs 18,700 crore in the project. The project is expected to go for first phase production in 2014.

The company required 3500 acre of land for the project. signing a MoU with the state government It has singed a MoU with the State government, and the state owned IDCO (industrial development corporation of Orissa) allotted 3040 acre of land in four phases. However, the construction is yet to start due to law and order problems.

During the review meeting Singh also told the State government that Tata Steel had set up rehabilitation colonies and sponsored local youths for vocational training.

Tata steel net revenue boosted by Corus

Mumbai, Aug 29: Tata Steel Ltd said its consolidated quarterly earnings rose more than six times, boosted by acquisition of UK based steel major Corus to become the sixth largest steel producer in the world.
