Border farmers protest before Deputy Commissioner's office

Amritsar Sep.15 (ANI): Hundreds of farmers living in border areas on Tuesday gheraoed the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Amritsar to press for their demands of being provided basic facilities and revocation of false case against the farmers who were recently arrested during a protest.

The protestors led by the Kisan Sangharsh Committee (KSC) assembled here to register their outrage and protest against the non-fulfillment of their long pending demands. They blocked the entry and exit points to the office of the DC.

Holding placards and banners in their hands farmers shouted slogan against the government's policies.

Addressing the gathering, KSC leader Rattan Singh Randhawa, said the government has failed to provide even the basic facilities meant for farmers.

Randhawa said; "The government should release the framers arrested during a protest made in Chandigarh recently and all false cases registered against them be withdrawn."

Jaswant Singh, a border farmer, alleged that the farmers who are having land beyond fencing were facing lot of difficulties to access their fields. He demanded that government should provide them maximum time to harvest their fields situated beyond fencing.

Later, a delegation of the farmers presented a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner.

Cross-border intrusions controllable: Shivraj Patil

New Delhi, May 16: Information about apprehension of foreign intruders indicates a decline in infiltration on India-Pakistan and India-Bangladesh borders, Minister for Home Affairs Shivraj Patil said today.
