NYT reporter rescued from Taliban clutches

Kabul, Sep 9: Officials reported that a New York Times reporter, kidnapped by Taliban captives was freed on Wednesday, Sep 9.

However, one of the commandos and a Times translator were killed in the gun battle.

Reporter Stephen Farrell along with his translator were kidnapped in the northern province of Kunduz on Saturday, Sep 5.

He had gone to cover the story that German commanders had ordered U S jets to drop bombs on two hijacked fuel tankers, causing a number of civilian casualties.

The Times reported that Farrell's Afghan translator, Sultan Munadi had also died.

The Times had not reported the incident thinking about the safety of those kidnapped.

Act fast, if not India may strike: McCain to Pak

Washington, Dec 7: US Senator and Former Presidential candidate John McCain said on Saturday, Dec 6, he believes that if Pakistan did not take necessary action against the individuals and groups linked to 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, India will conduct air strikes on select targets in Pakistan. He added that there is enough evidence of the involvement of former ISI (Inter-Services Intelligence) officers in the planning and execution of the Mumbai strikes.
