India's ranking slips in Doing Business Index

New Delhi, Sep 9: India ranking has slipped to 133 in the Doing Business Index, indicating business environment in the country has become tougher.

India's ranking in the Index, prepared by the World Bank and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), has slipped on account of the deterioration in parameters like starting a business, obtaining credit and investor protection.

Singapore occupies the first place in the Doing Business 2010 report which focused on 'Reforming through difficult times'.

In the global ranking of ease of doing business, Singapore is followed by New Zealand, Hong Kong and the United States.

India's neighbours, except Afghanistan, have been ranked better in the index. Pakistan has been ranked at the 85th position followed by Sri Lanka (105), Bangladesh (119) and Nepal (123).

'Attract foreign capital by changing FDI rules'

New Delhi, June 24: Suggesting India should emulate China and Taiwan, an industry body said the country should define its FDIs list by clearly making distinction on how many sectors of the Indian economy fall within four ambit of permitted, encouraged, restricted and prohibited list to absorb foreign funds. The only thing that can move fast in the goverment is how to increase their pays.. Corruption has ruined the country but we hardly hear any action to curb the same....
