PC in US, studies security under FBI, NY police

New York, Sep 9: P Chidambaram's four-day trip to the United States on security began with the Home Minister learning from New York security officials on how they guard America's financial capital against any possible terror threat.

Chidambaram was briefed by by officials from FBI, intelligence and security agencies and New York Police on measure taken to prevent 26/11-like attacks.

Keeping in mind that in the 26/11 attack launched against India's financial capital, Mumbai in 2008 the terrorists entered the country through the sea, Chidambaram and his team learned about the coast guard facility. Coastal security is now central part of New York's counter-terrorism mechanism

Apart from this, the minister was told how New York agencies achieved security without disrupting the normal life of the civilians. Home Minister and his team toured important landmarks of the city like Penn (Train) Station and met agencies like Joint Terror Task Force Centre of the FBI.

Kandahar hijack case: Pak still sheltering accused

New Delhi, Feb 5: Ruing lack of international cooperation against fighting terror, the CBI today said its work was inconclusive in the 1999 Kandahar hijack case despite a court handing down life sentences to three accused in the case. ''Until there is international cooperation, success in the war on terror will remain elusive,'' CBI Director Vijay Shankar told the media, adding ''We are not satisfied with today's development.''
