Govt frees IT firms of labour laws
Bangalore, Sep 1: In a bid to help the IT companies during the tough times, government has exempted IT/ITES and software establishments from the provisions of Industrial Employment (Standing Orders) Act 1946 (Central Act 20 of 1946), says a news report.

According to the Times News Network report published on Tuesday, Sep 1, the government has freed the companies from the archaic labour laws for two years.

“We have antiquated labour regulations, which do not fit the requirement of the knowledge-based industry. This reform is necessary. We do not want inspector raj here, what we want is more such reforms across industries,"" Head of HR in Infosys Technologies was quoted as saying in the report.

The labour laws are inflexible and strict when it comes to classifying workers, working hours and shifts, the wages along with other antiquated rules on leave and attendance.
