Doctors in Surat beaten up for alleged negligence

Surat, Sep 1 (ANI): Relatives of a patient who died at a government hospital in Surat manhandled and thrashed three doctors on Monday.

The irate kin which included many women alleged that the negligence of the doctors of the Surat Municipal Institute of Medical Education and Research (SMIMER) resulted in the death of the patient.

In the violent attack, three doctors were injured and reportedly one of them has been admitted in the Intensive Care Unit.

Neighbours and relatives of 45 year old Bhikhiben Rathod who died on Monday morning, beat up the doctors.

"They (doctors) asked us to take her to a private hospital. We did not have money, so we did not take her to another hospital," said Ganpat Rathod, husband of the deceased patient.

Bhikhiben was rushed to the Surat Municipal Institute of Medical Education and Research Hospital when she complained of chest pain.

Dr. Brijesh Rajput, a resident doctor, attended to her and then advised that she be admitted to the general ward.

The family, however, requested that she be admitted to the ICU which Dr. Rajput refused. (ANI)

BHU medicos revive anti-quota stir with hunger strike

Varanasi, Dec 16: Doctors at the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) here this evening revived the anti-reservation stir with a protest march followed by relay hunger strike, to demand the scrapping of bill paving way to staggered OBC reservation in institutions of higher education. The resident doctors and MBBS students were joined by students from other BHU faculties, including Commerce, Social Sciences and Institute of Technology in the protest march from the Institute of Medical Sciences.....
