Cong demands fresh probe into cash-for-vote scam

Cash for Votes Scams
New Delhi, Sep 1: Following 'fresh disclosures' from the expelled BJP leader Jaswant Singh, Congress on Monday, Aug 31 asked for a parliamentary probe into the cash-for-votes scam.

The incident took place during the trust vote in Jul 2008, when three Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs, Ashok Argal, Faggan Singh Kulaste and Mahavir Bhagora showed bundles of cash accounting to a total of 1 crore accusing the government of bribing for support.

Speaking about the scam in an interview Jaswant Singh said that LK Advani was at the centre of the scam.

“Do you know this whole wretched thing of money for votes is a classic example of wrong decision making and it"s extremely troubling that he did not stand up and say no. Advaniji was at the centre of this whole drama," Singh revealed.

“I told Advaniji that please don"t associate yourself (with the sting)... I went to the extent of going to his house and saying I never drink before sundown (but) I was so disturbed by this man that I had taken a drink in the daytime before coming to you," he said.

Taking these disclosures to serious considerations, AICC spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi said, "If these facts are true, as proved by Jaswant"s disclosures, this is a serious breach of parliamentary privileges. We, therefore, demand a detailed parliamentary inquiry into these fresh disclosures. If some public servants are found to be involved, it could also be an issue of Prevention of Corruption Act, which the police or the CBI could look into."
