Chhattisgarh: Senior held for ragging girl student

Raipur, Sep 1: A student of the Government Engineering College (GEC) on Monday, Aug 31, was arrested for ragging his junior.

A police officer said Praveen had asked the girl to hug him and do it daily.

Praveen Mishra, a seventh semester student of Mechanical Engineering, was held on Monday, Aug 31, from his college in Shej Bahar area on the outskirts of Raipur after a fifth semester computer science engineering student reported ragging.

"The student has a history of misbehaving with juniors. He was arrested for ragging the girl student and has been put in jail," said police station in charge.He said Praveen forcibly stopped the girl student and asked her to follow his instructions. Subsequently, she filed a complaint with the police.

Meanwhile, college authorities are probing the issue on a directive by the college's anti-ragging committee which was set up in 2009 on instructions of the state government.
