No 'great deal' with Musharraf to protect him against high treason trial: PML-N

Islamabad, Aug.31 (ANI): The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has vehemently denied reports that it is preparing a deal allowing former President General Pervez Musharraf to escape the high treason trial under the Article six of the Constitution.

Interacting with media persons here, PML-N Information Secretary Ahsan Iqbal said 160 million Pakistanis are in favour of prosecuting Musharraf and want the rule of law and supremacy of the Constitution to be maintained.

Iqbal said forgiving Musharraf for his subversive and 'extrajudicial' acts will set a bad example and would give birth to anarchy in the country.

"PML-N renunciation from the demand of his trial may be the wish of some people but it does believe that sparing a person who not only breached and violated the constitution of the country but subverted and set it aside several times, would give birth to anarchy in the country," The News quoted Iqbal, as saying.

Blaming Musharraf for the Lal Masjid Operation, bloodshed in NWFP, the Balochistan insurgency and murder of Nawab Akbar Bugti, Iqbal said even parliament could not provide any immunity to the former Army Chief.

According to sources close to Musharraf, he is trying to seal a pact with the PML-N, under which he would formalize his exile in Britain and stay 'quiet' for at least 10 years. In return, the PML-N and other political forces would not pursue the demand for his trial and arrest for the extra judicial orders passed by him on November 3, 2007.

The pact would also require Musharraf, who is currently in London, not to poke his nose into Pakistan's domestic politics and return to a completely retired life.

Sources said that Musharraf is likely to seek asylum in Britain, if cases are registered and pursued against him by various parties.

The 'great deal' is likely to be finalized in a couple weeks, The News reports. (ANI)
