30 Taliban killed in Swat Valley: Pak army

Islamabad, Aug 31: Pakistan's army on Monday, Aug 31 said that it has killed at least 30 Taliban in battles across the northwestern Swat Valley.

Army spokesman Akhtar Abbas said, "Soldiers looking for militants after a suicide bombing encountered resistance in several areas and that battles raged into the early morning Monday, Aug 31."

The military has said it is restoring security in the valley after a three-month operation to retake control of areas overrun by Taliban militants.

A suicide bomber on Sunday sneaked into a police courtyard in the valley's main town and killed 17 cadets while they were training. The attack was the deadliest since the military regain control of most of Swat in July.

On Sunday, Aug 30, at least 15 security personnel were killed and several others injured in a suicide attack on a police station in Pakistan's northwestern Swat Valley.

Big blast at shop in Afghan capital, several killed

Kabul, Mar 14: Four people were killed and eight wounded in a large explosion at an ammunition shop in the heart of the Afghan capital today, officials said.Several shops were destroyed in the explosion.''The blast occured in a shop selling gunpowder and other ammunition for hunting rifles,'' Ali Shah Paktiawal, head of the crime branch of Kabul police, said.Residents had earlier said the blast was caused by a suicide attack on an Afghan army patrol......
