'Advani was consumed by ambition to become PM'

Jaswant Singh
New Delhi, Aug 29: The expelled leader, Jaswant Singh continues to reveal insider information on the Bharatiya Janata Party. In his latest attack, Jaswant Singh said that LK Advani was 'at the centre' of the cash-for-votes scam drama enacted in the Lok Sabha in 2008.

"Advani was consumed by the ambition to become PM and that made him commit so many mistakes. I have a great sense of pity for him," Jaswant Singh said in an interview with the news magazine, Outlook.

“Do you know this whole wretched thing of money for votes is a classic example of wrong decision making and it"s extremely troubling that he did not stand up and say no. Advaniji was at the centre of this whole drama," Singh added.

Stating that Advani had two options to choose from, which were either taking the money to the Speaker or into the House, Singh said that he was appalled that Advani gave the MPs the go ahead to display money in Parliament.

Jaswant Singh was talking about the incident in Lok Sabha during the trust vote in Jul 2009, when three MPs, Ashok Argal, Faggan Singh Kulaste and Mahavir Bhagora showed bundles of cash accounting to a total of 1 crore accusing the government of bribing for support.
