After Mangalore, Hyderabad college bans burqa

Hyderabad, Aug 29: After Mangalore, Hyderabad's Mehdipatnam area invited the wrath of the Muslim community after Vani College (Junior and Degree) principal decided to ban the 'burqa'.

According to a Times of India report, the principal, Y Annapurna allegedly asked the students not to wear burqa and closed the college gates on them. Angered by this, the students held massive protest in front of the college gates.

The protests in the Muslim-dominated area soon turned violent as male students fron neigbouring colleges and parents of the girls joined in and started pelting stones.

The students said that the principle had been rebuking them for wearing the burqa for weeks now stating that they were not following the dress code.

This comes weeks after a college in Mangalore took a similar step. The government-run Sri Venkataramana Swamy College asked its girl students to not wear the burqa and headscarf.

Al Qaeda threatens to attack France over burqa 'ban' issue
