M'rashtra questions HC removal of MCOCA provisions

Bombay High Court
Mumbai, Aug 24: Questioning the negation of the provisions of Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) in the Sep 2008 Malegaon blasts case, state government filed an appeal in the Bombay High Court on Monday, Aug 24.

On Monday, Aug 24, the court directed Maharashtra government to present an appeal to all the 11 arrested in the case. The matter is adjourned to Sep 8.

On Friday, July 31, a special court  removed all MCOCA charges from the case claiming that those accused were not a part of organized crime branch.

The state government, however, claimed the order to be 'unconstitutional and bad in law'.

In the blast 11 people including Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur and Lieutenant Colonel Prasad Purohit were arrested regarding their involvement in the Sep 2009 Malegaon blast, which killed six people and injured many.
