"We have no love for Musharraf, neither army creating any hurdle in his trial": Gilani

Lahore, Aug.16 (ANI): Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has rejected reports that the Army is trying to protect former President General Pervez Musharraf from high treason charges, adding that neither he, nor his party, has any love for the former general.

Interacting with media persons on the sidelines of an inauguration function of a power plant in Sheikhupura, Gilani stressed that country's Armed forces were not a 'stumbling block' in Musharraf's trial.

"We have no love for him and neither the army has anything to do with the trial nor is it creating any hurdle," The Dawn quoted Musharraf, as saying.

Gilani said his government has been able to counter various problems facing the country, and is working to sort out problems arising particularly after the November 2008 Mumbai attacks.

"We had flour shortage, terrorism attacks, Indian threats following the Mumbai incident, loadshedding and sugar crisis. The government has overcome some of the crises with the support of the masses and it is taking effective measures to deal with the rest," Gilani said.

Commenting on the Swat military offensive, he said the security forces have established their control over a major portion of the region forcing the Taliban to retreat, but noted that extremists still controlled some parts of the valley.

"A major part of it had been cleared of terrorists, but there were problems at a few places that they would be sorted out shortly. The army would stay there till restoration of the writ of the government," Gilani said. (ANI)
