Malaysian Tourism Minister says little being done to promote Little India

Klang (Malaysia), Aug.16 (ANI): The Government of Selangor in Malaysia has failed to gazette Little India here as a tourist spot has negated the Federal Government's efforts to promote the area and fails to recognise Indian traders' contributions to the economy, said Tourism Minister Dr Ng Yen Yen.

"It is a business enclave that draws tourists and must be accorded tourism status as it would benefit the traders, small businesses and attract more tourists," The Star quoted her, as saying.

Dr Ng added that the Federal Government had given Little India a facelift with refurbished walk paths, a tourist information kiosk and public amenities.

"Our ministry is doing a lot to help the Indian community prosper and the state government should not oppose us," she said, adding that the state government should also gazette Padang Chetty at Little India as a heritage site. (ANI)

Malaysian Indian Congress leader sacked for criticizing party

Petaling Jaya (Malaysia), Jan.25 (ANI): Former Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) vice-president M. Muthupalaniappan has been sacked for making statements against the party.According to the Star, Muthupalaniappan was sacked more than a month after receiving a show cause notice from the MIC disciplinary committee following a complaint over his alleged statements in a Tamil newspaper on November 11, 2008 and on an Internet news portal on December 17, 2008.Party disciplinary committee chairman G. Vadiveloo said a letter was sent.....
