Kuwait: 41 women, children killed in wedding blaze

Kuwait, Aug 16: At least 41 women and children were killed when a fire broke out in at a wedding in Kuwait, a local media report said.

The Kuwait Times report also said that many were believed to have been killed in a stampede that followed the fire at the wedding in the Ayoun area of Jahra, west of Kuwait City.

Major General Jassim Al-Mansouri, director general of the fire department said that at least 20 fire trucks and dozens of firemen battled the blaze. He also said, "The death toll was expected to rise as the tent was packed to capacity."

Washington, Dec 27: The Pentagon is expected to send 3,500 troops into Kuwait to stand ready for use in Iraq, a senior defense official said as the Bush administration weighs adjusting force levels in the war. The ''call-forward'' force was requested by Army Gen John Abizaid, head of the military command responsible for the Middle East, and must be approved by Defense Secretary Robert Gates. 3 charged in probe of Pentagon Iraq contracts

Washington, July 26: A US Army major accused of accepting millions of dollars in bribes from contractors doing business with the Pentagon in Iraq and Kuwait, his wife and sister, have been charged in Texas, the US Justice Department said. Carolyn Blake, 44, was arrested on Tuesday night in Dallas, two days after federal agents arrested her brother, Maj. John Cockerham, 41, and his wife Melissa Cockerham, 40, in San Antonio, the Justice Department said.....
