H1N1, terror threat to dampen I-Day celebrations?

Red Fort
New Delhi, Aug 14: India is all set to celebrate Independence day marking the completion of 62 years as a free country.

The re-elected Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh will unfurl the tricolour flag at Red Fort after which he will address the nation. Even though elaborate celebrations will be held at the country's capital, all the states too will hold small-scale Independence day celebrations.

The security has been extensively tightened across the nation, especially in the capital. Additional forces of police and paramilitary forces have already been deployed in New Delhi. Security along the international borders too have been beefed up.

However, as this day comes amid growing tensions of terror strikes, the Swine Flu scare and severe drought, the celebrations are bound to be affected.

Nevertheless, this is time of the year when the country evaluates itself on where it stands as a nation.
