Tanvir's county stint with Surrey crashes before take-off

London, Aug 12 (ANI): Pakistan fast bowler Sohail Tanvir would not be playing for the English county team Surrey this season due to lack of proper immigration documents.

Tanvir actually had arrived at London's Heathrow airport on 31st July, but was refused entry and turned back by immigration officials.

In an interview with PakPassion, one of the officials of Surrey's media department, Nathan Ross clarified that Tanvir would not be playing for the county team this season.

Ross said Surrey is now looking to sign any other international player.

"Sohail Tanvir will not be playing for Surrey this season and we are looking elsewhere for an overseas signing," Ross said.

He said the team management was confident about Tanvir's participation, but his immigration documents were found inappropriate upon his arrival and thus he was denied entry in the country.

"The immigration documentation required to play as a county player is entirely different to that which is required to play as an international player and perhaps Sohail and his advisors overlooked this fact," Ross said.

The latest controversy has served a major blow to Tanvir's aspirations of staging a comeback in the national squad on the basis of his county performance.

With young pace sensation Mohammad Aamer performing well and players like Abdul Razzaz and Rana Naved-ul-Hassan grabbing every opportunity after their comeback, the left hand pacer will have to toil hard to regain his place. (ANI)
