Holbrooke to visit Pakistan for three days from Aug.15

Islamabad, Aug.12 (ANI): U.S.President Barack Obama's Special Representative for Pakistan and Afghanistan, Richard Holbrooke, will arrive here on 15th of this month on a three-day visit to discuss the anti-terrorism strategy and other issues of bilateral interest with Pakistani leadership.

Holbrooke is expected to have meetings with President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza gilani, Chief of Army Staff General Asfaq Pervez Kayani, ISI Chief Lt. Gen. Ahmed Shuja Pasha and Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi during his visit to Islamabad.

His trip is also likely to take him to Swat and other areas affected by the security force offensive against the Taliban.

Holbrooke is arriving here in the wake of reports that Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Chief Baitullah Mehsud has been killed. He expected to review the latest situation in Waziristan arising out of this reported killing with the Pakistani leadership, an official said here while requesting anonymity."We expect that the US envoy will ask for ground operation against the militants in Waziristan by the security forces to eliminate their hideouts," he said.

Holbrooke will also discuss with Pakistani authorities the reconstruction of Swat, Buner and Dir and rehabilitation of the internally displaced persons as well as the assistance by Washington for the purpose.

The other issue that the US envoy would discuss here in Islamabad was that of upcoming presidential elections in Afghanistan, the official said.

Holbrooke would also meet PML-N Quaid leaders and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif during his visit. (ANI)

India to ask Richard Holbrooke to freeze financial aid to Pak: Sources
