Islamabad, Aug.11 (ANI): Former Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf may be arrested if he returns to the country following the registration of a case against him by the Islamabad Police for illegally confining judges during the emergency in 2007.

"He could either be arrested on his return or through Interpol" said Hakim Khan, SHO Secretariat Police station, where the case has been registered.

han said Musharraf could be jailed for three years if convicted in the case.

Advocate Mohammad Aslam Ghuman, who had filed a petition seeking the registration of a case against Musharraf, said the former military ruler must be tried for his unconstitutional actions. He detained judges and ousted them illegally. So, he has to be tried for his illegal and unconstitutional actions," The Dawn quoted Ghuman, as saying.

Earlier, acting swiftly on the court's direction, Islamabad Police registered the case against Musharraf.

The additional session judge said the Pakistani law ministry didn't present its stand within the given timeframe.

The court directed the police officer in charge of the Secretariat Police station to record the statement of the petitioner against former president and register a case. (ANI)
