Ahmedabad, Aug 11: After Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) went around Mumbai trying what they could to curb the spread of Swine Flu or H1N1, the Vishwa Gujarati Samaj (VGS) has reportedly issued an advisory to Non-Resident Indians (NRI) especially Gujaratis to avoid travelling to the state if they were suffering from the illness.

VGS which consists of the Gujarati diaspora has issued this advisory fearing that a large influx of the Gujarati diaspora to the state this winter could lead to the virus spreading faster.

"Lot of Gujaratis living abroad come during Navratri and Diwali which is followed by marriage season. Between mid September to February, maximum number of Gujaratis visit the state," VGS President Krishnakant Vakharia was quoted as saying in a media report.

The advisory has been sent to all Gujarati members in the US, UK, Canada and African countries by email and newspaper advertisements.

This comes after the death of NRI Pravin Patel in Gujarat. Patel had come from Atlanta, US to Gujarat for vacation. On Tuesday, Aug 11 another Swine Flu death was reported from Vadodara, Gujarat. A 7- year old girl passed away succumbing to the Influenza A (H1N1) virus accounting for the 10th death in the country.

According to other media reports, Shiv Sena and MNS activists on Tuesday, Aug 11 tried to shutdown of schools in Mumbai to avoid the spread of the Pandemic which has become the biggest threat to the country right now.
