Tiruvalluvar statue unveiling: KRV men detained

Bangalore, Aug 8: Ahead of the unveiling of the Tamil poet, Tiruvalluvar's statue in Bangalore, the police have beefed up the security across the city and taken several Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) activists into protective custody.

The High Court that passed a judgement that no individual or organization can protest against the unveiling of the statue, has asked the police to take effective action as per law, without fear or favour.

The police who did not want to take any chances on Friday, Aug 7 launched an operation to detain KRV President T A Narayana Gowda along with about hundered other activists.

The unveiling ceremony which will see the presence of the tamil Nadu Chief Minister, M Karunanidhi will take place at Gangadhara Chetty Road near Ulsoor Lake on Sunday, Aug 9.

The BJP government on Monday, Aug 3 finally decided to unveil the statue of the saint-poet installed 18 years ago. The statue row finds its opposition among the pro-Kannada outfits like KRV in the backdrop of decade long Cavery water row.

Bangalore, Aug 9: Karnataka Chief Minister, B S Yeddyurappa and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi unveiled the statue of Tamil-poet Thiruvalluvar near Ulsoor lake in Bangalore on Sunday, Aug 9.More than fifty Karnataka Rakshana Vedike members were detained for protesting against the unvieling of Tamil-poet Thiruvalluvar on Sunday, Aug 9.Meanwhile, Pro-Kannada organisations burnt effigy of Chief Minister and blocked the roads in Hassan, Tumkur, Chikmagalur, Mangalore, Mysore, Maddur and Bagalkot.Police took leaders of Kannada protagonist.....
