Terror threat to World Badminton Championship: IB

World Badminton Championship, Hyderabad
Hyderabad, Aug 8: Intelligence Bureau (IB) has reportedly warned the state authorities of Andhra Pradesh of a possible terror strike the World Badminton Championships which is scheduled to happen in Hyderabad starting from Monday, Aug 10.

The IB has told the state authorities to stay wary of a strike similar to that of the Lahore attack targeting Sri Lankan cricket players in Pakistan. The inputs suggest a 'specific' Lashkar-e-Toiba threat to the championship and that international players will be targeted.

Following this intelligence input, the security in Hyderabad has been beefed up. A Times of India report quotes sources as saying, "Special teams with metal detectors and sniffer dogs have been placed at various points. Security has been strengthened at the four venues where the players are staying and armed escorts will be present when the players go from their hotels to the stadium. Special armed teams will also accompany the players when they go shopping."

Ace badminton players are expected to land in Gatchibowli to compete in the six day long tournament. About 200 players along with their staff have already landed in the state.

This comes a day after Indian authorities foiled a terror plot that two Hizbul Mujahideen militants were planning to launch in the country's capital on Independence day.
