Security stepped up along India-Bangladesh border ahead of Independence Day

Malda (WB), Aug 8 (ANI): Security has been stepped up along the India-Bangladesh border ahead of Independence Day.

"On the occasion of August 15, we are conducting a special operation. In this, we are sending some battalions close to the border as there are intelligence reports that some militants will try to cross over from Bangladesh to India," said S.S Davas, Company Commandant of the 87th Battalion of Border Security Force (BSF).

"We have alerted our troops along the border. We are directing our manpower to the border," added Davas.

Every year, before the country's national days, insurgent groups operating in eastern and northeastern India mount attacks on security forces and state installations.

India says some insurgent groups operate out of Bangladesh, a charge Dhaka denies. (ANI)
