Mumbai, Aug 8 (ANI): Union Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor has said that the historical and treasured cricket matches between India and Pakistan would become a spectacle once again provided 'certain things' happened in bilateral relationship.
Tharoor was speaking here last evening when a book titled - 'Shadow Across the Playing Field - 60 years of India-Pakistan cricket', co-authored by him and former Pakistan Cricket Control Board chief Shaharyar Khan was launched.
Although Tharoor expressed desire to see both the countries on the field, he linked the resumption of cricket ties to 'more progress in bilateral relationship'. His comments are being seen as linking the cricket ties with Pakistan action against terrorism.
"I think we will be playing once again provided certain things happen in the bilateral relationship. And when we play because we have lost something that we all enjoyed, I think there will be keen edge to the competition," said Tharoor.
Sachin Tendulkar, who was present at the occasion, recalled that how people's reaction changed whenever India won and lost to Pakistan.
"We went to Canada in 1997 and beat Pakistan there by 4-1-. The reception that we got in Delhi was incredible. Later, we went to Pakistan to play three One Day's and we lost that series 2. We got back and the reaction was completely different. Everyone was looking at us like these are criminals they have done something wrong," said Tendulkar. (ANI)
