India's inflation falls to -1.58 percent

New Delhi, Aug 6: The rate of Inflation fell for the eighth consecutive week to - 1.58 pc for the week ended Jul 25.

In previous week inflation was -1.54 pc. Wholesle prifce index (WPI) was 12.53 pc during the corresponding week in 2008.

Inflation eased over the previous week despite rise in food prices including fish-marine (8 pc), arhar (4 pc), urad (2 pc), fruit and vegetables, moong, masur, mutton, wheat, and condiments and spices (1 pc each).

Besides, prices of fuel, power, and light and lubricants remained unchanged over the previous week.

Steps taken to bring down Inflation: G K Pillai

Mumbai, Aug 22: Union Secretary for Commerce, G K Pillai on Friday, Aug 22 hinted a possible decline in inflation rate that touched a 13-year high of 12.63 per cent in the week ending August 9.
