IT giants eye Railways' outsourcing deal: Report

Mumbai, Aug 3: According to a report published in the Economic Times on Monday, Aug 3, major IT giants such as Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Wipro are competing with each other to clinch a 25 billion rupees outsourcing contract from the Indian Railways.

The world's largest Railways is reportedly planning to outsource functions such as human resources management, along with modules for integrating and automating its payroll, accounting and pension functions. And the report says that the railways is ready to shell out around 1.5 billion dollars over the next 2 to 3 years on technology.

"We will be coming out with a request for proposal very soon. The idea is to have build-operate-transfer models with the vendors," an anonymous senior railway official was quoted as saying in the report.

In another project, the railways is also planning to outsource its train scheduling and management system. TCS, Wipro and Mahindra Satyam are also bidding for this 4.5 billion rupees contract.
