Brazil's Massa will return home on Monday

London, Aug.1 (ANI): Brazilian race car driver Felipe Massa will return home to Sao Paulo on Monday, nine days after fracturing his skull in a freak accident.

According to the Daily Express, Massa, 28, has made a swift recovery from life-saving surgery required after the accident during qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix.

After the operation, Massa spent two days in a medically induced coma, but since waking earlier this week he has improved rapidly.

Massa's doctor, Dino Altmann, said yesterday: "Felipe continues to improve. He is doing very well, and we have already been told he can go back home on Monday. He is to continue his recovery in Sao Paulo and return to racing as soon as possible. That's the plan. He is in a very good mood, good shape and he just wants to come back."

On Wednesday, Ferrari turned to Michael Schumacher as temporary replacement for Massa. Seven-time world champion Schumacher, whose comeback will be in three weeks at the European Grand Prix in Valencia, was yesterday behind the wheel of a 2007-spec car at the team's test track in Mugello. (ANI)
