9 new varieties of wheat developed to fight impact of climate change

New Delhi, Aug 1 (ANI): Nine new varieties of heat resistant wheat have been developed by Indian scientists to fight the impact of climate change in the country.

Indian Council of Agricultural Research reports that introduction of this hybrid variety of wheat will contribute to a large extent to achieve food security in the country.

Official sources say that Punjab, Haryana and Western Uttar Pradesh known as granary of the country will be the worst affected by the climate change.

Scientists say several successful trials of the wheat seeds have been conducted and they will be available for cultivation after trials for three more years.

Ahead of the Copenhagen Climate Change summit in December this year, New Delhi has taken a series of measures to deal with the impact of climate change.

An eight-point national action plan is already in place to check the emission of green house gases apart from tapping the unconventional sources of energy and resorting to new conservation practices. (ANI)

Maharashtra: Opp walks out on wheat import issue

Mumbai, Apr 15: The entire Opposition today staged a walk out in the Maharashtra Assembly during question hour protesting against import of low quality wheat. State Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh said 1,773 tonne of imported wheat had been disposed off after it was found to be of inferior quality. Members of Opposition, including leader of Opposition Ramdas Kadam and Ganpatrao Deshmukh (PWP), asked why the government did not return low quality, saving Government funds.
