Cooch Behar, Jul 31: The Rajmata Gayatri Devi was bid a teary adieu and was laid to rest next to the memorials of her husband"s two other queens on Thursday, Jul 30.
The cremation of the former Maharani of Jaipur marked the serevance of the last royal tie to the state. Her former subjects of the Jaipur state, her sardars, and members of the ruling families of the former Rajputana all gathered to give her the farewell fit for a royal princess.
The people of the city gave their daily routines a miss only to catch a glimpse of the Queen's elegent beauty. They grieved the fact that the only person who really cared about their grievances had passed away.
The Queen was cremated with State Honours and the event was graced by the presence of the Rajasthan Governor Shailendra Kumar Singh and Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, along with several members of the State Cabinet.
The London-born princess turned into a benevolent Queen when she married late ruler Man Singh II. She died on Wednesday, Jul 28 succumbing to prolonged illness, at the age of 90.
It is learnt that Gayatri Devi's grandson Devraj Singh and his sister Lalitya Kumari will inherit the her wealth and also that of their late father Jagat Singh.
