Trinamool Congress, CPI (M) at loggerhead on Lalgarh violence

Kolkata, July 30 (ANI): As Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee accused the CPI (M) of committing atrocities in West Bengal for political gains, politburo Member Sitaram Yechuri has charged the Trinamool Congress of seeking Centre's intervention to legalize its violent acts against the communist party.

"We have brought it to the their notice (Centre) that in the name of the Maoists the atrocities are going on with the children, students and the common people and the Maoists are not even been arrested by the state government. This is a dangerous politics going on for their own political gains," said Banerjee.

Yechury said his party comrades are being attacked since the time of elections.

"Our people are being attacked from the time of the election. 110 of our comrades have been murdered. We are acting against this violence there and the here in order to legalize that they want Centre's intervention," said Yechury.

Indian recently initiated joint operation by the state and centre's elite security forces in order to counter the Maoist in the trouble-torn Lalgarh region of Medinipur district.

Meanwhile, speaking after his meeting with Mamata Banerjee, Home Minister P. Chidambaram said that violence at Lalgarh should stop immediately.

Chidambaram said he would talk to West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya on this issue. (ANI)

CPI(M) bandh call in Nandigram meets mixed response

Nandigram, Oct 29: There was a mixed response to the CPI(M) sponsored 12-hour Nandigram bandh that began at 0600 hours today. Superintendent of Police East Midnapur District G A Srinivasan said, "While it was total in Khejuri I and II blocks, there was practically no response in Nandigram I and II blocks and in Chandipur."
