London, Jul 29: According to a report in The Times, the British council is outsourcing more than 100 finance and IT jobs to India.
The decision that comes as part of the cost cutting drive was taken when the council discovered that 1,300 British workers would have to go in the next 18 months to save 45 million pounds.
Out of these 1,300 jobs, fifth of the posts will be outsourced to India, the report said without quoting any sources.
The Times also revealed that around 280 of the council's 500 permanent back-office jobs will be cut permanently. The left over jobs will reportedly go to agency, part-time or contract staff.
It is also learnt that the Britain's Foreign and Commonwealth Office, which funds the council, was exploring similar options.
