Tamil Nadu police bust fake CDs racket, arrest four persons red-handed

Chennai, July 29 (ANI): Tamil Nadu police have busted a racket of fake CDs with the arrest of four persons from whom it recovered pirated audio and video compact discs worth rupees 600,000 here.

About 1.4 million fake CDs of Hollywood, Bollywood and Tamil movies have been seized.

Acting on a tip off, the police on Tuesday cracked upon some shops in Vadatalali area and caught the culprits red-handed while manufacturing CDs.

Police told media that apart from fake CDs, police also recovered cash worth 40,000 rupees from the spot.

"Seizures of pirated CDs we have had, it's worth about six lakhs (rupees). We recovered a cash of about 40,000 rupees. We have arrested four people including the owner of five shops," said T Rajendran, Commissioner of Police, Chennai.

Capitalising on the overall popularity of Indian films around the world, film piracy has thrived causing significant economic losses to the film industry and also the national exchequer.

The impact of piracy incurs a loss of over 100 million dollars to film producers and the entertainment industry. (ANI)

Sri Lankan refugees flee from rebel territory
