PDP scraps CBI's clean chit to Omar, wants probe

Mehbooba Mufti
Srinagar, Jul 29: Rejecting the clean chit to Omar Abdullah in the 2006 Srinagar Sex Scandal by the CBI, the opposition PDP has demanded for a judicial probe into the matter on Wednesday, Jul 29.

This came, when the speaker, M A Lone tabled the CBI letter in the house which claimed that Omar Abdullah was innocent and his name was not in the list of accused.

The CBI had earlier given the speaker a statement that read, "This is clarified that nine chargesheets in the CBI case were filed in the competent court against 17 accused persons. The name of Omar Abdullah, son of Farooq Abdullah, does not figure in the list of the accused persons who were chargesheeted in the case."

Led by Mehbooba Mufti, PDP alleged that the CBI are only trying to cover up big names. Tearing a copy of the letter, Mufti said, "We demand a judicial probe into the allegations. The CBI probe is not acceptable."

This is the third day of chaos in the Jammu Kashmir assembly. This issue started when the PDP leaders on Tuesday, Jul 28 alleged that the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah's name was the 102 name in the accused list of the 2006 Srinagar sex scandal.

Following his allegation, Omar Abdullah submitted his resignation to the governor, N N Vohra stating that if he was guilty he will quit. The governor however rejected the resignation and told him to continue as the Chief Minister till the allegations are probed.

However, Omar Abdullah was not present at the assembly on Wednesday, Jul 29.
