Nagpur schoolchildren send hand-made rakhis to soldiers

Nagpur, July 29 (ANI): Ahead of Raksha Bandhan, which is going to be to be observed on August 5, schoolchildren of Nagpur have send 'Rakhis' to soldiers.

The main objective of organising this exercise was to inculcate the spirit of respect for the soldiers among the school children.

"The main objective of Prahar was to propagate the qualities of the soldiers like discipline, fearlessness, innovative spirit and the love for the nation. In order to promote this spirit we conduct various programmes and the main reason of organising this Rakhi sending programme was to inculcate the spirit of respect for the soldiers among the school children," said Colonel Deshpande, Principal of Prahar Vidhyalaya.

Students prepared handmade rakhis for the soldiers.

"I have made 15 rakhis for our soldiers who are deployed at the borders. They fight for us so that we can safely live in peace," said Nidhi, a student.

A Rakhi is the symbolic holy thread, which a sister ties ceremoniously on the wrist of her brother as a mark of revered bondage between them.

And on his part, the brother pledges to protect his sisters' honour and offers some cash or other gifts to her.

It is a festive occasion that falls on the full moon day and is celebrated by Hindus, throughout the country. (ANI)
