'Talks won't dilute UPA's resolve against terror'

Manmohan Singh
New Delhi, Jul 29: The Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, who listened patiently while the opposition launched a scathing attack on him over the Indo-Pak Joint statement, made it clear that extending invitation to dialogue doesn't mean that the government's resolve to fight terror is weak.

After clarifying that the dossier handed over by Pakistan had nothing to do with India's involvement in Balochistan, the Prime Minister said that the dossier that was handed over to India gave details on the involvement of LeT in the 26/11 Mumbai Terror Attacks.

Claiming that this was far more than what NDA could have extracted, he reminded the parliament that the Congress supported NDA on Vajpayee's decisions. Dr Singh also added that UPA government did not need any advise from NDA on policy.

Prime Minister who was on the defensive and was determined on making peace with the Parliamentarians reaffirmed that his government maintained zero tolerance towards terror and told that dialogue was the only way forward.

He also shared that he has warned Pakistan PM, Yousuf Raza Gilani that another attack on India would put intolerable strain on Indo-Pak relations.

Ever since the Prime Minister returned from the NAM Summit in Egypt after meeting Gilani on Jul 16,  he has been faced with opposition over the Indo-Pak joint statement. The opposition parties  in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha made their disagreement loud and clear.
