Mumbai, Jul 29: Succumbing to prolonged illness, Rajmata Gayatri Devi passed away on Wednesday, Jul 29. The Charismatic Maharani of Jaipur died at the age of 90 after developing gastrointestinal and lung problems.
The news of Gayatri Devi's death comes just a day after the death of actress Leela Naidu. Both Leela Naidu and Gayatri Devi were once voted one of the 10 most beautiful women in the world by Vogue magazine.
The former queen had recently gone through intestinal endoscopy. She had developed gastric problem when she was in London. However, she desired to return and was flown in an air ambulance to Jaipur. She has been in Santokba Durlabhji Memorial Hospital (SDMH) since Jul 17.
The London born princess of Cooch Behar was the third Maharani of Jaipur from 1939 to 1970. She later entered politics from 1962 when she founded the anti-Congress Swatantra Party in Rajasthan.

The doctor attending on her revealed that even though she recovered from gastrointestinal problems, she developed lung infection on Tuesday, Jul 28.
