Patna, Jul 26: The state government has transferred 14 IPS officers and 15 officers of state police on Saturday, Jul 25 following incident of a women being allegedly molested on the streets of Patna in full public view on Thursday, Jul 23.
However, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar denied the claims and said, "They were just routine transfers." He also said, "We have registered three FIRs, one against the person who assaulted her and two against the hotel owners under the immoral trafficking act."
Only the main accused in the case has been arrested so far. The other men who joined in the assault still remain at large.
Meanwhile, Girija Vyas said, "As far as molestation and eve teasing are concerned laws are very, very weak and that's why we have suggested that there should be a separate law that is sexual assault bill that we have proposed and sent to the government. We have suggested that the definition of rape should be changed. Even molestation should come under laws meant for rape."
On the Bihar incident in which a 22-year-old woman was allegedly stripped by a group of people, she also said "I feel really sorry about the incident. Existing laws are weak and the state government (Bihar) has not taken any action... we have asked for a report with regard to the incident".
