New Delhi, July 22 (ANI): Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Ghulam Nabi Azad said that there were 322 swine flu cases reported in the country so far, but there was no death reported due to this.
Replying to a question during Question Hour in the Lok Sabha Azad, said there were no deaths reported due to the swine flu in the country. Till now 234 patients were treated and discharged, and others are undergoing treatment.
Azad said India has shown that swine flu is curable. There were nearly 200 deaths reported in USA, Mexico, UK and Japan, he added.
Azad informed members that of the 322 cases reported, 256 persons got infected abroad. Of them, 111 cases came from the USA, 32 from Australia, 15 from Thailand and some others from Canada, Germany and Singapore.
Nearly 36 lakh passengers were screened for H1N1 virus at airports as soon as they arrived to the country so far, that comes around 45,000 passengers a day for the past two and a half month and he added those who found infected at the entry points were being immediately taken to isolation centers.
Azad assured members that there is no dearth of drugs in the country, as ten million Tami flu doses have already been distributed across the country. He also congratulated the teams of doctors and paramedics carrying out the screening or treatment of patients.
Azad said India demand fro the screening of the infected passengers at the origin itself, but none of the countries initiated for this type of screening. The Health Ministry has suggested the Ministry of External Affairs to take up the matter with the other countries, Azad told the house. (ANI)
