Global swine flu death toll now over 700, says WHO

London, July 22 (ANI): H1N1 swine flu has claimed lives of more than 700 people across the globe since it broke out four months ago, the World Health Organization (WHO) has said.

WHO recorded a jump of at least two-thirds from the last official death toll with Margaret Chan, WHO director-general, warning that the disease would go on to become the biggest flu pandemic ever seen.

Officials further said there was no point in documenting every case since the outbreak is developing at such a rapid pace, reports The BBC.

WHO spokeswoman Aphaluck Bhatiasevi stressed on the urgent need to for countries to take proper precautions, including temporary closing down of schools.

Experts predict a swell of new cases could be expected in the northern hemisphere when the weather begins to cool in the autumn. (ANI)

Government reviews preparedness for Swine Flu

New Delhi, Apr 27 (ANI): After keeping in view the reported human cases of Swine Influenza A (HINI) caused by a re-assorted Swine flue virus, the Government has instituted a series of preventive actions that include surveillance at Ports and International Airports.The Health Ministry is keeping watch on the situation through Integrated Disease Surveillance.....
