Chandrayaan-1 develops trouble, sensors fail: ISRO

New Delhi, Jul 17: Chandrayaan -1, India's first moon mission which was launched 7 months ago has suffered a critical malfunction that may pose a threat the mission, sources said.

Sources also said, a key sensor onboard the spacecraft developed a technical fault due to the thermal radiation.

According to Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), Chandrayaan-1 achieved all of its mission objectives before the malfunction was detected. But the spacecraft has entered lunar orbit last Nov 2008 can no longer orient itself with high precision.

Speaking to the media, ISRO chief G Madhavan Nair revealed that a key sensor onboard India's moon mission has malfunctioned. He also said, however Chandrayaan-1 had achieved all of its mission objectives before the malfunction was detected.

India's first manned mission by 2020

Salem, Jan 13: Encouraged by the successful launch of Chandrayan-I in 2008, October, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) wants to undertake the country's first manned moon mission by 2020.M Annadurai, the project director of Chandrayaan-I on Sunday, Jan 11 said that the ISRO proposed to undertake the country's first manned moon mission by 2020 following the success of Chandrayaan-I. The Chandrayaan-II mission is expected to be undertaken within a couple of years followed by Chandrayaan-III, Annadurai.....
