World's oldest new mother passes away at 69

London, July 16 (ANI): A woman who became the world's oldest new mother in 2006, when she gave birth to twin boys at the age of 66, has passed away.

Maria del Carmen Bousada de Lara's brother has revealed that she sided on Saturday, aged 69.

He told the paper Diario de Cadiz that shortly after she gave birth to her sons Christian and Pau, his sister had been reportedly diagnosed with cancer.

In 2007, Maria revealed that she had lied about her age to doctors at a fertility clinic in California to get IVF treatment, and told them that she was 55.

She said at the time that there was no reason to believe that she would not have as long a life as her mother, who died at the age of 101.

She even joked that she might live to see her grandchildren.

She also insisted that her sons, presently two years old, would never be alone even if she died prematurely.

"There are lots of young people in our family," the BBC quoted her as saying.

Maria was aged 66 years 358 days when her twins were born in Barcelona on 29 December 2006, 130 days older than Romanian Adriana Iliescu, who gave birth in 2005 to a baby girl. (ANI)
