Construction of accommodation for Commonwealth Games at full swing

New Delhi, July 16 (ANI): Union Tourism Minister Kumari Selja on Thursday said that accommodation for visitors, both overseas and domestic, expected during the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi would be complete and ready for occupation, a few months prior to the commencement of the gala event.

Selja said this after visiting and inspecting a couple of sites in national capital on Thursday where the construction is in full swing.

"We would see that these flats are ready a few months before the games in October 2010. The construction of the building and rooms are under process. Once it would be over, the furnishing work will start," Selja said.

"The standard of the furnishings will be similar to that of the sample flat. The furnishing for the biggest flat consisting of three bedrooms will cost Rs 4,50,000," she added.

New Delhi is expecting more than 100,000 visitors to watch the Commonwealth Games.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has constructed more than 5000 flats to accommodate visitors to the Games and Indian Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) has been given the responsibility to furnish these flats.

Selja further mentioned that there would be accommodation and hotels for every section of tourists, be it domestic or international.

"Maximum number of tourists, instead of five star hotels, would prefer all other star hotels. We are expecting domestic tourists also who would rather choose staying in small and economical hotels. We will have to make arrangements for ordinary people also who will be coming to Delhi to watch the games," Selja said. (ANI)
