MP govt conducts Virginity tests on brides

Virginity tests on brides
Bhopal, Jul 13: In a shocking incident, about 151 girls who were part of the mass wedding program that was organised by the Madhya Pradesh government was reportedly made to go through a virginity test in Jun 23.

This incident that has come to light in the Parliament has also angered the National Commission for Women (NCW). NCW on Monday, Jul 13 asked the government to 'submit an interim report at the earliest'.

The incident took place in a mass wedding that was organised as a part of the 'Mukhyamantri Kanyadaan Yojna' (in which the Chief Minister 'gives away the bride') that was started off in Apr 2006.

Even as media unearthed certain facts like the rejection of 12 girls based on the tests, the government and the Chief Minister Shivraj Chouhan continue to deny the allegations.

The incident that was clearly in violation of human rights, will definitely have an adverse effect on the BJP government.
