New Delhi, Jul 11: With the death toll of the Gujarat Hooch tragedy on a raise, politicians to businessmen are trying to have a say in the issue. After Congress workers made use of this incident to protest against BJP government in the state, liquor baron Vijay Mallya asked the government to lift the ban on liquor.

Urging the Chief Minister, Narendra Modi to rethink the ban, Mallya said, “Narendra Modi knows fully well that every brand of alcohol is available in the state of Gujarat at two or three times the price charged in neighbouring states."

Mallya's argument labeling the prohibition as a 'farce' was met with a rebuttal from the state government.

"Mallya should not interfere in our matters; he should look after his liquor business. He should keep his policies to himself-we don"t need suggestions," said state government spokesperson Jaynarayan Vyas.

According to the recent media reports, the death toll has risen to 130 and more people are being brought to the hospitals.

It should be noted that Gujarat is the only state that has banned sale and consumption of liquor. This has led to the increase in the consumption and sale of illicit liquor.
