AI carries extra passengers, flouts safety norms

New Delhi, Jul 10: Looks like cash strapped Air India ha been searching for new ways to make more money for some time now. Sparking off a new controversy Air India reportedly carried three extra passengers on a fully loaded Mumbai-Mangalore flight IC-179 on May 5.

Out of the three extra passengers, one person was allowed to sit in the cockpit, two other passengers were accommodated in the cabin crew area.

Allowing these extra passengers also got the door damaged and the airline was forced to offload the passengers.

The incident has brought the airliner under the scanner as it flouts the safety regulations.The rule that no passenger is allowed to sit in the cockpit which was passed after the 9/11 attacks still holds good.

Since the safety breach falls under the criminal proceedings, DGCA is expected to take stern action against Air India.
