Aurangabad, Jul 10: Just as the news of Supreme court issuing a notice to the Centre, Delhi government and an NGO challenging the judgement over Sec 377 hit the media, religious leaders came together in Aurangabad to address a news conference.

In the news conference held on Thursday, Jul 9, Mujtaba Farooq, the all India secretary of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Charan Singh Garanthi, head of the local gurudwaras and James Ambildhage, representative of organisation of various churches in the city came together to say, "India is a religious country where people believe deeply in religions they profess and we are united in opposing the unnatural act that the court has now legalised."

Arguing that the ruling will lead to the end of India's family life by encouraging 'unnatural' sexual orientation.

"On one hand the government speaks of controlling the spread of diseases like AIDS and on the other hand, it seemed inclined toward promoting it by approving the HC verdict that may result in spread of evil in the society," Farooq said. And added that no religion has place for gay people.

Even before the judgement was passed, the mere speculation of such a ruling had caused stirs in the religious circuits with Muslim and Christian communities opposing the move to decriminalise Homosexuality.
