SC issues notice to Centre on Sec 377

New Delhi, Jul 9: The decriminalisation of Homosexuality in India just met with another hurdle on Thursday, Jul 9. The Supreme Court has reportedly issued a notice to the Centre and the NGO Naz foundation on the petition challenging the Delhi High Court judgement on Section 377 and has sought a reply by Jul 20.

Refusing to stay gay marriages, the court said that any interim order for staying gay marriages or their registration would be considered after hearing the Centre and others concerned.

The court clarified that the laws concerning marriages have not been changed.This step came as a response to a petition filed by astrologer SK Kaushal challenging the Delhi High Court judgement decriminalizing gay sex. the counsel representing the astrologer said that since the Delhi HC judgment, there have been seven incidents of gay marriages.

The court responded to this argument said the the definition of the marriage and the norms have not changed. The counsel went on to present the adverse effect of the Delhi HC ruling.
