Violence erupts in Kashmir over death of a student

Srinagar, July 8 (ANI): Protesters damaged and burnt police vehicles here on Wednesday after the body of a youth who had been missing for past few days was found in an old city area.

The body of Asrar Ahmed Dar, 20, a student who was reported missing from uptown Maisuma area since Saturday, was found in Rainawari.

Mystery shrouded the cause of his death even as locals blamed police of having picked him up and later killed him.

Angered by Dar's death, the locals went on a rampage, damaging buildings, and even forcing the shopkeepers to pull down shutters.

Police had to resort to baton charging and firing tear gas shells to keep the mob under control. (ANI)
